Music inspires us!

That is why we offer music class to every student for 30 minutes every day with our music director. Then, each classroom teacher incorporates music throughout the rest of the day. Classical musicians like Mozart, Bach or Chopin are often played in the background during individual study or D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read). Other activities may inspire Jazz greats like Miles Davis or World Beat Music with Ali Farka Toure and Ry Cooder. You just never know what melodic sounds may be drifting through the air at LPP &AES #1.

MENC — The National Association for Music Education states:
"Every student in the nation should have an education in the arts."

This is the opening statement of "The Value and Quality of Arts Education: A Statement of Principles," a document from the nation's 10 most important educational organizations, including the American Association of School Administrators, the National Education Association, the National Parent Teacher Association, and the National School Boards Association.

At our school we believe that every student should have a strong competency and appreciation of music. Our music program involves the children in a variety of musical experiences including singing games, rhythmic movement, reading and writing music, playing rhythmic instruments and listening and responding to music.

Through these various activities the students develop musical concepts and skills such as moving to the beat and defining the rhythm of music. They learn to distinguish between fast and slow, loud and soft, and high and low in the music. Later on in the school year they begin to read basic rhythms and easy melodic lines using sol, mi and lah.
